After the Second World War many European countries started to bring in workers and cheap labour from other countries to fill the gap left by the loss of many during the war. This migration of labour brought many social problems with it as well as some obvious benefits. Turkey, a country which supplied labour, in this respect used this to its own benefit by sending the young and active Kurdish population to the European countries. Turkey's aim in doing this was to bring to a halt the development of Kurdish unity. The progress and unity of the Kurds was too important an issue for Turkey and others who were clearly threatened by it because they despised even the existence of the Kurds. To achieve this an alliance was required. The Kurdish population starting to emigrate to Britain in the early 1980s, like other ethnic minorities has managed to continue their own lifestyle. Being pushed into exile separated from their own people, the Kurds have tried hard to integrate into the society they found themselves in. The Kurds have managed to overcome hardships and difficulties through organisations that they established.
FED-BIR is well aware of the need for institutionalisation has the following definition for it. Institutionalisation is to develop societal projects for the society we live in, to realise and establish continuity of such projects within the accepted legal and moral norms of the country that we live in. Institutionalisation in many spheres of the society will enable us to develop as well as help us to take up our place among the developed nations. Establishing political and legal institutions will enable us to protect our freedom and identity. The social and legal institutions will determine our historical place and work towards justice. Our institutions are our main instruments of our legal and just struggle for democracy. The objectives of an institution are identified clearly stated in its constitution. The constitution is the basis of institutionalisation. The constitution will prevent abuse of power by individuals.
